Food Recipe: Easy Game Day Guac

FIRST: GO RAPS GO!
If you haven’t been following along, my favourite NBA team that I’ve been following for years have made it into the NBA FINALS. That’s right, the Toronto Raptors have made it into the finals AND is currently up 1-0 in the series!! It’s been such a great season for the team and I am so excited to watch the rest of this final series. All I have to say is #WeTheNorth.
If you’re going to be hosting watch parties over the next several games, here is a recipe that super quick, simple and is a crowd pleaser! Love me some guac, especially while watching a basketball game. Serve with some chips and salsa/queso (shoutout to the Tostitos Queso) and you’re set!
Ingredients:
6 avocados
3 jalapenos pepper (optional and can add more of if wanted!)
1 red onion
1 lime or lemon
salt
Instructions:
Peel avocados and use a spoon to take out the flesh into a bowl. Tip to peel: Take your knife, cut into the avocado and use it to cut all the way around the avocado. Twist to separate the two halves. Take the heel of your knife to the pit and twist until it comes out.
Use a fork or a potato masher to mash the avocados. I am a fan of more chunky guac, so I mashed the avocado till its smoother but you can still see chunks of avocado in there. If you like your guac smooth, mash until your desired consistency.
Dice your onions and your jalapenos. I personally took out the seeds of the jalapenos, but if you want a spice kick to your guac, feel free to keep it in there. Add into the bowl.
Squeeze on your lime/lemon (without the seeds) and give your guac a mix.
Add 3 tsp of salt and mix. Don’t be afraid to season your guac! I would throw the salt in there, taste, and adjust!
That’s all there is to it.
Some other side tips:
Don’t buy your avocados on the day of! Usually the avocados in the store are not ripe yet and take 2 days to do so. SO, I would buy it about 2 days in advance before you make your guac. The only exception is if you can find some already pretty ripe avocados (test by slightly pressing the avocado - if it’s hard, it’s not ready yet). Another way you can speed up the process is if you put the avocado in a bag with bananas, it’s supposed to help with the ripening process!
Make the guac an hour or less before you serve! Not only is it good fresh, but it does brown if you leave it as is. So make it and serve as soon as you can!
Hope you enjoy it and please comment if you try this recipe at home!
Go Raptors!
